As a precautionary measure (read: because we wanted to) we decided to enroll Emily into swimming lessons. These lessons do not, as the title suggests, teach her to swim. They help familiarize her with the water.
The instructor teaches us, the parents, the best positions to hold our toddlers in the water. With these positions, I can encourage Emily to kick, blow bubbles, and move her arms.
Emily's favorite part is getting dunked. Not. (Emily looks just like that little girl when she is dunked.)
We sing songs like "This is the Way We..." and move our toddlers based on the instructions.
This past lesson, Emily learned how to ...
hold onto the side of the pool all by herself...
how to climb out...
and how to jump back in.
While Emily and I swim, Andrew watches us.
Tans.
Eats stuff off of the ground.
Cries because he misses his Mommy.
And soothes himself with his fingers.
Don't worry Andrew, your turn will come.
We like our swimming lessons.
